Laura Laudermilk

I remember as a kid my parents would invite some people over to play music in the living room. I started singing right along with them and learning harmony just from listening to my mom sing. When I was in high school I started singing with a band called Moonshine Express and recorded an album with them at age 18. It has all original songs on it, and my mom wrote a song for me "MY DREAM IS YOU" and I put the music to it next thing I know it was on the record. We opened up for the Statler Brothers in Staunton, The Whites, and even sang in a prison. After the group split up for one reason or another I was getting married for one I joined another group called midnight fire and we had a girl drummer that was cool.

My husband and I met when moonshine band needed a lead guitar player I asked him if he knew I feel good during practice he said no but that is a good thing I guess, and we hit it off after that. We have been married for 25 years now and have a 20 year old daughter that graduated from Roanoke College who is also a great singer. I love to sit around a campfire and sing while my husband plays for me. I also love to sing with my daughter.

After meeting Marcia and Kim I thought I was so lucky to find two great women and such talent. We are the best of friends and they have seen me through a lot. We will always be there for each other in the future and hopefully one day make it BIG...After opening up for Collin Ray last year and Ricochet this year in Staunton maybe we have a chance.

My Mother's Family taught me to love music. I remember sitting in the floor at the feet of my Mee Mee playing guitar with her three children, my mother being the middle child, singing gospel music with such beautiful harmonies. "The Hanshaw Family" featuring my grandparents, Virgil and Beula Hanshaw, my Aunt Shelbia Jean, Uncle Sonny and my Mother, Madonna, performed at churches and tent revivals for years and had their own radio show "The Hanshaw Hour" on the Lewisburg WV radio station. The desire to sing was instilled in me then, and I feel so blessed to be able to carry on their tradition of performing.

I didn't start singing until after my mother's death. I used to pray God would give me the ability to sing like she could, and one day, he did. I just forgot to ask him to give me the gift of singing harmony!

I performed with a band called Fescue 911 for a couple years in Blacksburg VA, then came home to Covington VA, started my own Karaoke Company, met Kim and Laura, played around with my karaoke machine in my living room, and the rest as they say is history…I can't even remember when they weren't a part of my life... I'm just grateful to be a part of the trio called SouthBound...

Kim Cahoon

I grew up in a household with loving parents and a great brother. I remember sitting on the couch listening to Ray Price and watching my mom and dad dance in the living room. I started singing in the church choir at a young age with my parents and then decided to take up choir in school. I had wonderful teachers who were a big influence on me and taught me about harmony and blending voices.

Those lessons have brought me where I am today. I sang with the Virginia Opry for many years and was blessed by making new friends who taught me even more about music.

I became friends with Marcia when our boys were playing ball together. We talked and found that we both had a love for music and the friendship began. Marcia and Laura lived a few houses a part so we all got together and decided to take a chance and sing around our hometown. We have been singing together ever since.

I am thankful to have found not only two wonderful people to sing and work with but ones who are true friends. We have traveled many miles together having good times and bad. Our group has sung for just a few and also for several thousand and we have enjoyed every moment and every person that we have met. We have laughed and cried together because that is what friendship is.

I have a husband, three grown children, a son in law, a grand dog, a loving family and great friends. Music has a special place in my life and I hope what I am able to share allows someone else to enjoy it as much as I do. I have a little secret that not a lot of people know about. I've always wanted to sing with Vince Gill so if anyone reading this has connections in that area and can pull some strings I will be ready.
